The initiation of IVF with your own oocytes commences with an all-round evaluation of your fertility, overall health, and medical examinations to ensure your readiness for the treatment. Both prospective parents, regardless of gender, undergo a series of tests and examinations.
Step 1: Ovarian Stimulation
The initial phase of the IVF procedure involves ovarian stimulation, accomplished through daily hormone injections. The doctor prescribes the appropriate medication type and dosage, monitoring the stimulation process every 3-4 days. Regular checkups and ultrasound examinations are integral while on medication. The treatment period, typically around 12 days, is determined by your test and examination results.
If being physically present in the designated area for this duration poses challenges, we offer the option of remotely organizing the ovarian stimulation process through online consultations and consistent communication. Consequently, you’ll need to undergo several ultrasound examinations in your location, sending the results to us for assessment.
Step 2: The Egg Retrieval Process
Following ovarian stimulation, the subsequent step is the retrieval of eggs. Conducted under sedation, this brief procedure lasts approximately twenty minutes. Guided by ultrasound, the doctor employs a needle to aspirate each mature follicle. Following the retrieval, a rest period of one or two hours is advised, after which you can leave the clinic. Should an embryo transfer be planned within the same cycle, the IVF specialist proceeds with the preparation process.
Step 3: Fertilization Procedures
During the oocyte retrieval day, your partner is required to provide a semen sample for fertilization, employing either ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) or PICSI (physiological intracytoplasmic sperm injection) procedures. In the former, each egg is directly injected with sperm. In the latter, sperm is introduced into a container with hyaluronic hydrogel, allowing for both visual selection and quality assessment of biochemically active sperm. After 17 hours, the embryologist will determine the fertilization status of the eggs.
As a standard practice, doctors fertilize numerous eggs and then freeze embryos for later use. This strategy acknowledges the uncertainty surrounding the number of attempts needed to achieve the desired goal of motherhood.
